Three questions to ask your HVAC tech after annual maintenance

All Hours Staff • June 7, 2023

If you want to keep your heating and cooling system running strong all year long (rhyme intended), then you need to stay on top of at least annual HVAC maintenance. But regular maintenance is nothing without clear communication!

At All Hours Heating and Air, we pride ourselves on having the best customer service and communication skills in the industry, but if you want to be proactive it’s never a bad idea to ask an HVAC tech a couple questions after a thorough system inspection. In this blog post, we'll suggest three questions you can ask your HVAC tech after your next annual check-up so you can better understand your system and make informed decisions for your home comfort.

How Is My System Performing?

One of the first questions you should ask your HVAC technician is about the overall performance of your system during the maintenance visit. Of course, OUR technicians will start talking to you about your system without you needing to ask (and in our experience, most useful HVAC technicians will. If they DON’T come to talk with you after a maintenance call, it might be a sign that you need a new heating and air guy).

Asking about your system will give you an insight into the condition of your HVAC unit and any potential issues that were identified. Your technician will be able to share information about the efficiency of your system, any repairs or adjustments made, and any recommendations for improving its performance. Again, if anyone CAN’T effectively describe the condition of your system, then you need to find a new tech!

Do You Have Any Energy-Efficiency Tips for My Home?

Energy efficiency is crucial for reducing utility costs and minimizing your environmental impact. After annual maintenance, ask your HVAC technician for any energy-saving tips specifically tailored to your home. They can provide valuable insights on optimizing your system's performance and recommend simple steps you can take to enhance energy efficiency. This may include suggestions on thermostat settings, air filter replacements, or even insulation improvements. Implementing these tips can help you save money on your energy bills and make your home more eco-friendly.

What Maintenance Tasks Can I Perform on My Own?

While it's important to leave certain HVAC tasks to the professionals, there are maintenance tasks you can perform on your own to prolong the life of your system and ensure its efficiency between annual maintenance visits. Ask your technician about any simple maintenance tasks you can tackle yourself, such as regularly changing air filters or cleaning the outdoor unit. They can provide you with step-by-step instructions and recommend the appropriate frequency for performing these tasks. By taking an active role in the upkeep of your HVAC system, you'll contribute to its longevity and overall performance.

When it comes to HVAC units, the choice of brand is a key consideration. We love York units because they offer, in our opinion, the greatest quality/price balance; premium quality at a competitive price compared to other leading brands.

Your HVAC system is critical for your home's comfort, but have you considered how your thermostat's age could impact its efficiency? Despite its small size on the wall, an old thermostat might actually be contributing to your higher cooling costs.

With Wendell's humid summers, your AC must have enough power to efficiently remove humidity from your air. Humidity levels that are too high or too low can lead to various issues, from discomfort and mold growth to respiratory problems.
